Add-ons

192 sq ft of concrete pavers

$2,650 to $4,858

Installed, 2026 US prices. Coastal metros run 30-60% above this range, the Midwest and South below it. Always compare against two or three local bids.

How the estimate works

The calculator multiplies your square footage by the installed per-square-foot range for the material you pick, then adjusts for site conditions. That adjustment matters more than most people expect: base preparation (excavation, disposal, compacted gravel) is 45 to 60 percent of the labor on a typical patio, and a slope, tree roots, or an old slab to remove push it up. The add-ons use whole-project ranges because a fire pit or pergola is quoted as a unit, not by the square foot.

Two honest caveats. First, region: coastal metros price 30 to 60 percent above the national range, the Midwest and South below it. Second, the cheapest bid is usually cheap because of the base, which is the one part you cannot see when the job is done. Ask every bidder to itemize excavation and base depth.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a patio cost in 2026?

Most installed patios land between $12 and $25 per square foot: a typical 12×16 ft (192 sq ft) paver patio runs roughly $2,500 to $5,000. Gravel is the budget floor at $3 to $6 per square foot; bluestone and flagstone top the range at $20 to $40. Add-ons like a built-in fire pit ($3,000 to $8,000) or a pergola ($2,000 to $6,000) move the total more than the surface choice does.

What drives a patio quote up?

Base preparation is the biggest hidden variable: excavation, disposal, and compacted base are 45 to 60 percent of labor, and slopes, tree roots, tight access, or removing an old slab all raise it. Pattern complexity, natural stone, raised edges, and built-in lighting add on top. That's why the calculator asks about site conditions, not just material.

Is it cheaper to build a patio myself?

DIY saves 40 to 50 percent on paver patios, but the base prep is what makes or breaks the job: a poorly compacted base shows up as sunken pavers within two winters. Gravel is the genuinely DIY-friendly option. For poured or stamped concrete, hire out; fixing bad concrete costs more than the original job.

How accurate is this calculator?

It multiplies your square footage by real 2026 installed price ranges per material, adjusts for site conditions, and adds whole-project ranges for the extras. It's built to tell you which bids are reasonable, not to replace them: coastal metros run 30 to 60 percent above the national range, so always compare two or three local quotes.
