The short answer

Gardenly wins on price and on the extras around the render, particularly plant recommendations and seasonal views. AI Garden Design wins on design volume, on the range of purpose-built tools, and on commercial licensing.

What Gardenly actually is

Gardenly is a garden-specific AI design tool priced well below most of the category, and it bundles things most AI redesign tools skip: plant recommendations, maintenance schedules, and a seasonal view showing how a planting looks across the year. It is the closest direct competitor on scope and the cheapest credible one on price.

You upload a photo, the AI produces a redesign, and alongside the render you get plant recommendations, a maintenance schedule and a seasonal visualisation. Both plans also include plant identification and AI video generation, which is unusual at this price. Plans are credit-based rather than unlimited: 20 credits a month on Starter, 100 on Pro, with Starter capped at medium resolution and Pro at high. Billing yearly halves the monthly rate.

What it costs
Starter $9/month or $54/year for 20 design credits a month; Pro $14/month or $84/year for 100 credits and higher resolution. No free tier, but a 7-day money-back guarantee if you have generated no more than 3 designs.

The credit maths

Twenty credits a month sounds like plenty until you design something

Gardenly is the cheapest entry point in this comparison at $9 a month, and the number that decides whether it is a bargain is not the price. It is twenty: the number of designs the starter plan gives you.

Designing a garden is not one generation, it is a search. You try a style, decide the paving is wrong, try again, change the planting, realise you want the seating on the other side, try a different style entirely to check you are not missing something better. In practice people burn ten to fifteen attempts before a direction clicks, and that is on one part of the yard.

So twenty credits is roughly one honest exploration of one space. Front and back, or a change of mind next week, and you are out of credits or upgrading. The hundred-credit tier at $14 is the more realistic homeowner plan, and it is worth comparing that number, not the $9 one, against the alternatives.

The refund policy is unusually specific and worth reading: seven days, and only if you have generated no more than three designs. That is fair enough as a guard against people burning the whole allowance and refunding, but it does mean you get three generations to decide, so spend them on your hardest photo rather than your prettiest one.

Credit against what you get, though, and the bundle is good at this price: plant identification, maintenance schedules, a seasonal view and AI video are all included on both plans, and the video in particular is something most tools in this category, ours included, do not offer at all.

PlanWhat it works out to
Starter, $9/mo20 credits, about 45 cents a design. Roughly one full exploration of a single space before you run out.
Pro, $14/mo100 credits and higher resolution, about 14 cents a design. The realistic plan for a whole property.
Yearly, $54 and $84Billing annually halves the monthly rate. Genuinely cheap, if you are confident enough after three test designs to pay a year up front.
The refund window7 days and a maximum of 3 designs generated. Use those three on the yard you most doubt.

Test on the hard photo, not the easy one. Every tool in this category looks capable on a wide sunny lawn. The one worth paying for is the one that handles your awkward side return.

AI Garden Design vs Gardenly: common questions

Is Gardenly cheaper than AI Garden Design?

Yes, considerably, at the entry level. Gardenly Starter is $54 a year against our $228 Personal plan. The trade-off is volume: 20 design credits a month against 250. If you generate more than about five designs a month, the gap narrows fast.

Does Gardenly have a free trial?

No free tier. It offers a 7-day money-back guarantee, but the refund requires that you have generated no more than three designs in that window, so it functions as a limited trial rather than an open one.

What does Gardenly do that AI Garden Design does not?

Seasonal visualisation and maintenance schedules are the genuine gaps. Gardenly shows how a planting reads across the year and tells you what upkeep it needs. We produce the redesign and suggest plants by style, but we do not model the garden over time.
