AI Garden Planner
Plan your garden visually: upload a photo and see beds, paths, and planting laid out in your actual space. Free to try.

Garden planners usually mean grids: drag a tomato icon onto a square and repeat. Useful for spacing a vegetable bed, useless for the question most people actually have, which is what should this garden BE? Where do the beds go, what shape is the lawn, where does the path run, what does it all look like in July? An AI garden planner answers the visual questions first. Upload a photo of your garden and see complete layouts designed in place: raised vegetable beds along the sunny fence, a circular lawn with deep borders, a gravel garden with a bistro corner. Pick the plan that fits your life, then get as detailed as you like about what goes in each bed.
What you can plan
Layout
where beds, lawn, paths, and seating actually go. These are the decisions that are expensive to move later.
Vegetable gardens
raised beds, arches, and mixed edible-ornamental layouts placed where the photo shows the light is.
Borders and beds
shapes, depths, and planting styles from cottage looseness to formal structure.
Paths and structure
gravel, brick, or stepping-stone routes that make the layout walkable.
Seasonal look
the same plan generated in different moods, to sanity-check whether you'll still like it outside peak bloom.

Plan the layout first, the plants second
The classic beginner mistake is buying plants before deciding the layout, and the classic planner mistake is spacing carrots before knowing where the vegetable bed should even be. Layout is the 80% decision: it sets the light each bed gets, the maintenance you sign up for, and the way the garden reads from the house. Iterate layouts on your photo until one clicks, then do plant-level planning inside that structure. Our plant guides cover what suits each style; your local nursery and USDA zone chart settle the final list.
Planning a garden in three steps
Photograph the garden from the spot you see it most
usually the kitchen window or the back door. That viewpoint is the one worth designing for.
Generate two or three whole-garden layouts
a vegetable-forward plan, a lawn-and-borders plan, a gravel-and-seating plan, and live with them for a day before choosing.
Lock the layout
then plan the planting inside it with the plant guides, your zone chart and your nursery. The expensive mistakes are all in step two, which is exactly the step the render makes cheap.

Free garden design, honestly defined
The free tier gets you design advice on an uploaded photo with no signup. Generating full photorealistic redesigns is the paid part, from $19 a month, cancel anytime, with a quota (250/month) that in practice means unlimited replanning. If you're comparing against free grid planners: those stay free because you do the design work yourself. Here the design is the product.

Frequently asked questions
Is the AI garden design tool actually free?
Genuinely free to start: every free account gets 5 photorealistic preview designs (watermarked, preview resolution), no credit card, and the design advice tool needs no signup at all. Paid plans, from $19/month (yearly) for 250 designs/month, remove the watermark and the cap.
How does it work?
Upload a photo of your outdoor space, pick a style (Modern, Japanese, Mediterranean, etc.) or describe one in words, and choose any additions you want (pool, firepit, pergola, lighting). The AI returns a photorealistic redesign in 1-2 minutes. You can iterate as many times as you want.
Can it plan a vegetable garden?
Yes, visually: raised beds, arches, herb corners, and mixed edible-ornamental layouts rendered into your actual space. For row-by-row crop spacing and succession timing, pair it with a grid planner or a planting calendar; the AI settles where the garden goes and how it looks, which is the part a grid can't show.
Does the planner know my climate and what grows in my zone?
It designs plausible planting for the look you pick, but it does not validate species against your USDA zone. Treat the render's plants as a style direction, then confirm choices against your zone and local conditions. Our plant guides list zone ranges for the most-used design plants.
How realistic are the AI designs?
Photorealistic. The AI preserves your space's structure (house, fence, hardscape, existing trees) and intelligently swaps in new landscaping, materials, furniture, and features in the chosen style. Most users can't tell our renders from real photos at first glance.
Do I need design skills?
No. The AI handles the design decisions, plant choices, color palette, materials, layout. You just need to know what style you like (or browse the gallery for inspiration). Most users get a result they love within 3-5 iterations.
Can I iterate if I don't love the first result?
Yes. Every plan includes a generous monthly quota (Personal = 250 designs/month, Pro = 1,000) which means you can refine endlessly, try a different style, different additions, different mood. The AI generates a new design each time so you can compare side by side.
Can I download the design?
Yes, every design is downloadable as a full-resolution JPG (1024×1024). You can save it to your phone, share it on social media, send it to a contractor, or print it for reference when you're at the garden center.
Is my photo private?
Your uploads are private to your account. We don't sell your photos, don't use them for marketing, and don't show them to other users. You can delete any design from your account at any time. We retain photos only to power your design history.
